Most young people make the transition from adolescence to adulthood with the support of their biological families, communities, and schools. However, youth aging out of the foster care system lack this much-needed family and social support. As a result, foster youth face enormous challenges in making a smooth transition to adulthood and building successful lives. Data indicates that former foster youth have higher rates of poverty, homelessness, victimization, criminal involvement/incarceration, low educational attainment, unemployment, mental health and substance abuse, and early child-bearing.

Mentorship Programs focus on training in daily living skills which includes:

•Budgeting•Managing Checking Accounts

Safe Streets future goal is to acquire a building that will house our One Stop Community Center. The idea is to have the professionals and community members who play key roles in providing services to our community members.

Trauma awareness: Encourage all providers within the One Stop Community Center to become Trauma Informed in their approach. The impact of trauma can be central to one’s development. And since we know there is a correlation between substance use, physical health and mental concerns, Safe Streets the relationship of trauma with substance use, physical health and mental concerns.
